*clears throat* *picks up bullhorn*
Chuck Schumer, you’re a bitch! And Fetterman, ya mama’s…. Let me stop before they kick me off substack!
For this abysmal spending bill to pass through the Senate, eight democrats needed to vote yes. Now, just the other day, Schumer’s bitch ass let us know that there weren’t enough Democrats willing to vote yes to advance the measure! And mistakenly, I got excited—somebody was going to put a stop to this bullshit!
But, I was naïve. Foolhardy, even. So, it pains me to admit, like any wife, that my husband was right—don’t tell him I said that, though—because he has been calling Schumer spineless as long as we’ve been together.
Sure, Chuck called frump a nihilist in his speech announcing his change of heart; however, those words don’t mean shit. Those words are nothing but hot ass air when you are willingly doing that nihilist’s bidding. And as we saw with the vote this past Friday, Schumer is a pusillanimous little man. And I know, I know, he isn’t the only democratic Senator who voted to pass FY25 CR; however, he is the minority leader and he sets the tone for senate democrats. Furthermore, the Senate did not have the votes if democrats towed the party line, as they should have. And yet, here we are.
An aside:
I am aware that I called Fetterman by name in the beginning and there were other Senate dickwad democrats that voted for this resolution; however, Fetterman has been on my shit list for many reasons. 1) I’m sick of that man always showing up in that dirty ass sweatshirt. Take a bath sir! 2) He was the only democrat who voted to confirm the Pam Bondi for Attorney General. So, yeah, him and his dookie hoodies can go to hell!
Anyway, back to the things that really matter: the government avoided a shutdown—for now—but at what cost?
Just like a broken clock being right twice a day, there are a *few* decent things in this stopgap measure that the GOP drew up. Here are some:
Increased spending for WIC
Increased funding for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program. The program that supports low-income senior citizens
Increased funding for Food Safety and Inspection Services. ( I guess they don’t want us to write scathing social commentary novels about meat packing like we’re Upton Sinclair)
But, to me, that is where the decency ends because this measure hands over enormous amounts of power and discretion up to Elon Musk. Oops, I meant Trump. (Listen, Musk’s hand is so far up Donald’s ass making him the worst possible muppets character ever!)
Democrats caved to Trump because they deemed a government shutdown worse than…Musk being able to dictate literally *gestures widely* damn near everything in the name of government efficiency. But, I am thoroughly confused by this. Yes, a government shutdown is not great; however, are we not currently experiencing some of the same symptoms of one due to DOGE’s actions: downsizing of essential offices; halted medical and scientific research; national parks services shuttered; cuts to small business support; furloughed employees; and the list is endless.
The Department of Government Efficiency—a.k.a. Musk’s wet dream—is operating like a bull in a china shop in the name of cleaning up government spending waste. So, my dear duteous democrats, what actually have you stopped by voting to pass this?
This continuing resolution reduces funding for: the Department of Health and Human Services divisions that run community health centers and other programs and that help people with mental health and substance abuse issues; disaster relief fund (DRF); the SEC, in order to continue to foster transparency and enforcing securities laws; veterans healthcare; USDA; and more.
I do think it is worth mentioning that the SEC not being able to run properly benefits trump, musk, and their other billionaire crony friends. The SEC works to ensure securities markets are not manipulated. The rich already benefit the most from these marketplaces and if there is a lapse in monitoring they will be at an even bigger advantage.
Republicans, DOGE, and the like claim they care about wasteful government spending and yet they continue to increase the defense spending budget. And the Department of Defense has failed seven audits, the most recent being in 2024. They were unable to account for how over $800 billion dollars was spent. But, I thought we cared about fucking spending!
The senate democrats have done exactly what they accuse many of their republicans colleagues of doing: voting against the interests of their constituents.
A government shutdown would have been detrimental in many ways; however, even more American people are at the mercy of musty musk’s chaotic whim. This bill truly has given a blank check to Musk and I personally am afraid that one of the things we will begin to see is his technology—extremely faulty technology — being implemented in our federal aviation administration’s systems. I’m afraid that Musk and Co. are going to continue to prop up Russia at the detriment of our allies. And, I am also terrified that we will continue to see Cybertrucks parked on the South Lawn.
Only time will tell what will unfold between now and September. But, I, for one, am already exhausted from the whiplash I have from every new asinine headline.
The people are mad! We are fed up. Now, I ain’t mad enough to take to the streets because we—Black women—tried to warn y’all of this shit! But, y’all ain’t want to listen. But, to be Black in America with two braincells to rub together is to constantly be in rage…or whatever James Baldwin said!
